"One should not attempt to teach voice without acknowledging that the instrument is closely intertwined with the individual. Voice teachers must be sensitive to their students' self-esteem when addressing vocal issues. Warm-ups and vocal exercises are an essential part of developing the singing voice. In addition to training the voice through vocal exercises, singers must accumulate repertoire.
Students should be made aware of the expectations placed upon them by the educator. Discipline can build self-confidence and both qualities are needed to excel in any subject. It is the responsibility of the educator to create an environment in which students feel respected and equal. An ideal educator is patient and flexible with his or her students."
